How the score works
Half of the score is your collection rate: fees collected divided by fees expected this term. The other half is six fee practices, such as sending reminders, issuing same-day receipts and matching M-Pesa payments to learners quickly. The “what small improvements are worth” figures are plain arithmetic on your own numbers: 2, 5 or 10 percentage points of expected fees, never more than what is still owed.
Fee collection questions, answered
- How do I calculate my school’s fee collection rate?
- Multiply the number of learners by the average fee per term to get the fees expected. Divide what you have collected by that figure. A school with 200 learners paying KES 15,000 expects KES 3,000,000, so KES 2,400,000 collected is an 80% rate.
- What is a good fee collection rate for a school?
- There is no single standard, because it depends on when in the term you measure and on your parent community. Track your own rate at the same point each term, and set a target that beats last term’s. This tool scores your rate and your fee practices together.
- Why do school fee arrears keep building up?
- Usually because balances are unclear to parents, payments are matched to learners slowly, and reminders go out late or not at all. Fix those three first, then agree payment plans for old balances.
- Is my school’s information kept private?
- Your numbers stay in your browser and are not sent to us. We only receive your email address if you ask for the printable report.
- How can I reduce fee arrears quickly?
